COVID-19 Procedures

IN-PROGRAM CONSIDERATIONS

TAC Sports is dedicated to following all procedures recommended by governments and health agencies on proper protocols. The following protocols are in place from recommendations from the Government of Ontario and the American Camp Association. 

All TAC Camps are running according to the lowest risk: 

Lowest Risk: Small groups of campers stay together all day, each day. Campers are encouraged to remain at least 6 feet apart. Outdoor activities are prioritized. All campers are from the local geographic area.

Drop-Off and Pick-up Procedures

  • TAC Sports has developed procedures that support physical distancing and separate groups as best as possible (i.e., children of one room enter door A and children of another room enter door B, or staggered entrance times).
  • As much as possible, parents should not go past the screening area.

Hand sanitizers will be available and if in an enclosed space and physical distance of 2 meters cannot be maintained, parents/guardians and staff/providers are encouraged to use face coverings.

  • Signage /markings on the ground to direct families through the entry steps.
  • Personal belongings (e.g., backpack, clothing, etc.) should be minimized. If brought, belongings will be labelled and kept in a specifically designated area.

Screening for Symptoms

  • All individuals including children attending child care, staff and child care providers, parents/guardians, and visitors must be screened each day before entering the child care setting, including daily temperature checks.
  • Home child care providers and residents must also be screened each day before receiving children into care.
  • Parents and guardians should be reminded of this requirement when children are first registered for the program and through visible signage at the entrances and drop-off areas.
  • If children are screened at the child care setting, screeners should take appropriate precautions when screening and escorting children to the program, including maintaining a distance of at least 2 meters (6 feet) from those being screened, or being separated by a physical barrier (such as a plexiglass barrier), and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) (i.e., surgical/procedure mask and eye protection (goggles or face shield)).
  • Alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol content should be placed at all screening stations. Dispensers should not be in locations that can be accessed by young children.
  • Records are to be kept on the premises.

Ongoing Screening Procedure

TAC Sports will screen individuals upon coming into a camp on an ongoing basis. 

  • Individuals will be asked if they have any COVID-19 symptoms
  • The temperature of the individual will be taken according to camp processes using an appropriate forehead thermometer. 
  • If campers or staff are suspected to have COVID-19 based on this assessment, this individual will have to go home immediately and will not be able to enter camp.
  • Individuals who are demonstrating symptoms of COVID-19 will be encouraged to have a COVID-19 test before being allowed to return to camp. 

Protocols When a Child or Staff Demonstrates Symptoms of Illness or Becomes Sick

  • Staff/home child care providers, parents and guardians, and children must not attend the program if they are sick, even if symptoms resemble a mild cold.
  • Symptoms to look for include but are not limited to: fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny nose, nasal congestion, headache, and a general feeling of being unwell.
  • Children, in particular, should be monitored for atypical symptoms and signs of COVID-19. For more information, please see the symptoms outlined in the ‘COVID-19 Reference Document for Symptoms’ on the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 website.
  • If a child or child care staff/provider becomes sick while in the program, they should be isolated and family members contacted for pick-up.
  • The sick person will be provided with tissues and reminded of hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, and proper disposal of tissues.
  • If the sick person is a child, a staff will remain with the child until a parent/guardian arrives. The staff will wear a surgical/procedure mask and eye protection at all times and not interact with others. The staff will also avoid contact with the child’s respiratory secretions.
  • All items used by the sick person will be cleaned and disinfected. All items that cannot be cleaned (paper, books, cardboard puzzles) will be removed and stored in a sealed container for a minimum of 7 days.
  • The sick person will be asked to be tested for COVID-19 at one of the testing centers available. The sick person can only come back to camp once they have demonstrated a COVID-19 negative test score. 
  • If the person is in a cohort, the cohort will be notified. Any instructors that are in the cohort will be notified and monitored for symptoms.
  • If the sick person is COVID-19 positive, all members of the cohort or their group or activity will be notified and recommended to have the COVID-19. 

 

DURING CAMP:

Emergency CPR

Emergency CPR will remain as per the proper training procedures with modifications in place. 

The recommendations below are based on expert opinion. They will reduce the risk of the public responder getting the virus from the person when providing CPR and using an AED during cardiac arrest. They are modifications of usual Hands-Only CPR to be used only during the COVID-19 pandemic. They apply to both adults and children.

  • Prevent contamination: lay a cloth, towel, or clothing over the person’s mouth and nose to prevent any potential spread of the virus through contaminated air or saliva.
  • Provide Hands-Only CPR
  • An automated external defibrillator (AED) if available. AEDs are safe and simple to use.  Turn it on and follow the voice prompts.

Outdoor Play

  • All play will be in small groups by activity in order to facilitate physical distancing. Where the outdoor play area is large enough to accommodate multiple groups, licensees may divide the space with physical markers to ensure cohorts remain separated by at least 2 metres.

Food Services 

  • Food services will be provided by Rose Reisman catering
  • All lunches and snacks are individually packaged and wrapped
  • Foods are free from all common allergies and food restrictions and allergy free options are available. Food service is free from peanuts and tree nuts. 

Face Mask Approach 

  • Face masks, while not technically PPE, should be worn by:
      • Counsellors whenever interacting with others closer than six feet for extended periods, i.e., greater than 15 minutes, as well as other times to the extent possible.
      • The kitchen staff should always wear face masks. Refer to the Food Services section.
      • Custodial staff should always wear face masks when cleaning and disinfecting. Refer to the Cleaning and Disinfection section.
      • Staff should wear cloth masks when interacting with outside vendors or outside community members when physical distancing can’t be maintained.
  • Disposable gloves should be worn by:
    • Counsellors when anticipating contact with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases or when handling belongings known to have been in contact with confirmed or suspected cases.
    • Best Practice: Counselors will wear gloves when handling any incoming belongings or equipment prior to disinfection

Rain Day Procedure: Camp will not run if the indoor space is not safe and conditions are not met for proper social distancing. Indoor space is dependent on individual locations. Parents will be notified as soon as possible in the event of inclement weather and the cancellation of the camp day.
