COVID-19 Procedures

 

IN-PROGRAM CONSIDERATIONS

 

TAC Sports is dedicated to following all procedures recommended by governments and health agencies on proper protocols. The following protocols are in place from recommendations from the American Camp Association and the Government of Ontario.

 

All TAC Camps are running according to the lowest risk: 

Lowest Risk: Small groups of campers stay together all day, each day. Campers are encouraged to remain at least 6 feet apart. Outdoor activities are prioritized. All campers are from the local geographic area.

 

Drop-Off and Pick-up Procedures

  • TAC Sports has developed procedures that support physical distancing and separate groups as best as possible (i.e., children of one room enter door A and children of another room enter door B, or staggered entrance times).
  • As much as possible, parents should not go past the screening area.

Hand sanitizers will be available and if in an enclosed space and physical distance of 2 meters cannot be maintained, parents/guardians and staff/providers are encouraged to use face coverings.

  • Signage /markings on the ground to direct families through the entry steps.
  • Personal belongings (e.g., backpack, clothing, etc.) should be minimized. If brought, belongings will be labelled and kept in a specifically designated area.

 

Screening for Symptoms

  • All individuals including children attending child care, staff and child care providers, parents/guardians, and visitors must be screened each day before entering the child care setting, including daily temperature checks.
  • Home child care providers and residents must also be screened each day before receiving children into care.
  • Parents and guardians should be reminded of this requirement when children are first registered for the program and through visible signage at the entrances and drop-off areas.
  • If children are screened at the child care setting, screeners should take appropriate precautions when screening and escorting children to the program, including maintaining a distance of at least 2 meters (6 feet) from those being screened, or being separated by a physical barrier (such as a plexiglass barrier), and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) (i.e., surgical/procedure mask and eye protection (goggles or face shield)).
  • Alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol content should be placed at all screening stations. Dispensers should not be in locations that can be accessed by young children.
  • Records are to be kept on the premises.

 

Ongoing Screening Procedure

TAC Sports will screen individuals upon coming into a camp on an ongoing basis. 

  • Individuals will be asked if they have any COVID-19 symptoms
  • The temperature of the individual will be taken according to camp processes using an appropriate forehead thermometer. 
  • If campers or staff are suspected to have COVID-19 based on this assessment, this individual will have to go home immediately and will not be able to enter camp.
  • Individuals who are demonstrating symptoms of COVID-19 will be encouraged to have a COVID-19 test before being allowed to return to camp. 

 

Protocols When a Child or Staff Demonstrates Symptoms of Illness or Becomes Sick

  • Staff/home child care providers, parents and guardians, and children must not attend the program if they are sick, even if symptoms resemble a mild cold.
  • Symptoms to look for include but are not limited to: fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny nose, nasal congestion, headache, and a general feeling of being unwell.
  • Children, in particular, should be monitored for atypical symptoms and signs of COVID-19. For more information, please see the symptoms outlined in the ‘COVID-19 Reference Document for Symptoms’ on the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 website.
  • If a child or child care staff/provider becomes sick while in the program, they should be isolated and family members contacted for pick-up.
  • The sick person will be provided with tissues and reminded of hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, and proper disposal of tissues.
  • If the sick person is a child, a staff will remain with the child until a parent/guardian arrives. The staff will wear a surgical/procedure mask and eye protection at all times and not interact with others. The staff will also avoid contact with the child’s respiratory secretions.
  • All items used by the sick person will be cleaned and disinfected. All items that cannot be cleaned (paper, books, cardboard puzzles) will be removed and stored in a sealed container for a minimum of 7 days.
  • The sick person will be asked to be tested for COVID-19 at one of the testing centers available. The sick person can only come back to camp once they have demonstrated a COVID-19 negative test score. 
  • If the person is in a cohort, the cohort will be notified. Any instructors that are in the cohort will be notified and monitored for symptoms.
  • If the sick person is COVID-19 positive, all members of the cohort or their group or activity will be notified and recommended to have the COVID-19. 

 

DURING CAMP:

Emergency CPR

Emergency CPR will remain as per the proper training procedures with modifications in place. 

The recommendations below are based on expert opinion. They will reduce the risk of the public responder getting the virus from the person when providing CPR and using an AED during cardiac arrest. They are modifications of usual Hands-Only CPR to be used only during the COVID-19 pandemic. They apply to both adults and children.

 

  • Prevent contamination: lay a cloth, towel, or clothing over the person’s mouth and nose to prevent any potential spread of the virus through contaminated air or saliva.
  • Provide Hands-Only CPR
  • An automated external defibrillator (AED) if available. AEDs are safe and simple to use.  Turn it on and follow the voice prompts.

 

Outdoor Play

  • All play will be in small groups by activity in order to facilitate physical distancing. Where the outdoor play area is large enough to accommodate multiple groups, licensees may divide the space with physical markers to ensure cohorts remain separated by at least 2 metres.

 

Food Services 

  • Food services will be provided by Rose Reisman catering
  • All lunches and snacks are individually packaged and wrapped
  • Foods are free from all common allergies and food restrictions and allergy free options are available. Food service is free from peanuts and tree nuts. 

 

Face Mask Approach 

  • Face masks, while not technically PPE, should be worn by:
      • Counsellors whenever interacting with others closer than six feet for extended periods, i.e., greater than 15 minutes, as well as other times to the extent possible.
      • The kitchen staff should always wear face masks. Refer to the Food Services section.
      • Custodial staff should always wear face masks when cleaning and disinfecting. Refer to the Cleaning and Disinfection section.
      • Staff should wear cloth masks when interacting with outside vendors or outside community members when physical distancing can’t be maintained.

 

  • Disposable gloves should be worn by:
    • Counsellors when anticipating contact with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases or when handling belongings known to have been in contact with confirmed or suspected cases.
    • Best Practice: Counselors should wear gloves when handling any incoming belongings or equipment prior to disinfection

Rain Day Procedure: Camp will not run if the indoor space is not safe and conditions are not met for proper social distancing. Indoor space is dependent on individual locations. Parents will be notified as soon as possible in the event of inclement weather and the cancellation of the camp day.

Camp Policies

 

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations that are received 40 days prior to the beginning of the program will be provided with a refund less a 15% administrative fee.

Cancellations that are received with less than 40 days of notice prior to the beginning of the program will be provided with a refund less a 50% administrative fee.

Cancellations that are received with less than 20 days of notice prior to the beginning of the program will not be eligible for a refund.

Individual camp days and school program sessions missed for any reason cannot be refunded or credited.

There are no refunds on school programs.

There are no refunds on gift certificates. 

There are no refunds on rain days or weather-related.

 

Individual camp days missed for any reason cannot be refunded or credited

In the case of exceptional illness, that results in three consecutive missed days or more, a 50% refund or 100% credit will be provided. A signed doctor’s note must be provided in these circumstances.

*If a cancellation is requested with less then 48 hrs since the time of registration, only the 15% cancellation fee will apply.

 

Lunch Program

All our camps are peanut free, our caterers are peanut free as well (St. Joseph Morrow Park – Peanut Controlled Kitchen). We are happy cater to any specific allergies and dietary restrictions.

All full day, full week registrants will be included in the lunch program. This provides the camper with a morning snack, lunch, and an afternoon snack. **To be eligible for lunch, a full-day camper must be registered for 4 days or more. Registrations of three days or less per week will not be provided with lunch. Registrants of this nature will still receive a snack.

Half day registrants will receive one snack.

It is highly recommended that extra snacks are packed.

Any last minute registrations (registrations done 72 Hrs prior to the start of the week of camp) that require an alternative meal (Dietary restriction or Allergy), although we will try our very best to accommodate this meal, cannot be guaranteed.

Any registrations that previously were not eligible for a meal (Registrations with 3 days or less per week) that add an additional day to camp cannot be guaranteed a lunch.

 

Prorated Fees

Drop-in registrants, who are going to attend less than 5 days per week, are eligible for pro-rated pricing on premium programs (biking and robotics) and before/after care. If required, please call the office at 416-627-1092.

 

Discounts and Coupons

TAC Sports is very happy to offer many different types of discounts and coupons to the community. Multiple week discounts will be applied automatically to the invoice, as well as the sibling discount for the second child, third, and so forth registered.

**The multiple week discount and sibling discount will not be applied to any drop-in sessions, only to full session registrations.**

Coupons are a one time use ONLY and cannot be applied multiple times per account. If the same coupon is found to be used multiple times TAC Sports holds the right to invoice the account owner for the amount of the extra coupons.

 

Changing Sports Policy

Children who do not choose a sport during registration will automatically be added to multisport.

Athletes can choose to switch their chosen sport on the second day of camp (subject to availability and capacity). However, campers must remain in their selection for the remainder of the week and are unable to make a change in the sport beyond the second day of camp.

 

Cancellation of Programs/Sports

Specialized programs and sports require a minimum of 5 students in order to function as designed. If the minimum number of registrations for a specific program is not met, said the program may be cancelled anytime the week before the camp is to start. TAC Sports will provide as much notice as possible about the cancellation of the program, however, this may be on the Friday before the start of the program. A refund for any program with additional fees that have been cancelled will be provided but if requested to cancel the full week of camp the camp cancellation fees will apply.

 

Bullying Policy

Bullying will not be tolerated at any TAC Sports program. In general, a “three strikes” policy is followed. After the first incident, a coach will address the situation with both the aggressor and victim. During a private meeting with the aggressor, the coach will explain the consequences of bullying. The parents of both parties will be notified. An incident report will be drafted and sent to head office. This procedure is followed should a second incident occur. In addition, the aggressor may be separated from the group or put into a different sport/activity (additional fees for specialized programs will apply). If a third incident should occur, the aggressor will be expelled from camp, not only for the duration of the program but from any other TAC Sports program in the future. Cases of extreme bullying are not subject to the three strike rule. If it is proven that there was intent to seriously harm another child through physical or verbal means the aggressor will face expulsion from camp. His or her parents will be called for immediate pickup (refund for remaining days ONLY will apply).

Parking

TAC Sports will not be held accountable for any tickets/parking tickets received.

TAC Sports will provide parking passes for the Glendon location. This parking pass will allow parents and guardians to park in the designated parking lot for 30 mins during pick up and drop off. Until parents receive this parking pass it is highly recommended to purchase a parking stub/feed the parking meter. Do not park in or near the handicap parking spots, unless with the appropriate handicap permit, a $400 parking ticket will be given. TAC sports will not be held accountable for any parking tickets.

 

Rainy Day Policy

Our coaches and coordinators are equipped with a rainy day schedule in the event of inclement weather. Students will remain in their sport-specific groups. Coaches will adapt their lesson plans for the indoor space.  Each sport will have a designated time slot in the gym which will rotate through each sport, when not in the gym, coaches will have an in-class lesson plan prepared. No refund or credit for rainy days will apply.

 

Instructors

Every TAC Sports coach holds a current CPR and First Aid Training certification. All instructors are certified by NCCP (National Certification Program of Canada) and follow safe teaching methods with proper sequential instruction. Our 5 star development levels ensure that students are progressing at a pace that is appropriate for their current ability. All activities are supervised and our low instructor to student ratio ensures maximum attention.

 

Emergency List

We keep emergency contact information at every location, with records on medical history or allergies. We identify, treat, report and record any occurrence of injury in a systematic way on our written injury sheet and keep up-to-date safety records of each camper.

 

PHOTO for STUDENTS WITH ALLERGIES or MEDICAL CONCERNS:

We require a photo of any child with a history of serious allergy or medical concerns. Please email info@tacsports.ca with a photo of your child. Please ensure the picture includes a clear view of your child’s face. If a child requires an Epi-Pen please ensure to provide the camp coordinator with the Epi-Pen, this will be returned at the end of each day or at the end of the week of camp.

 

Sign/Out System

At TAC Sports, we have a proven and safe system in place for the sign-out of campers. No camper leaves the premises without a parent or guardian signing them out. Parents are required to show official identification every day upon pickup of their children and have to be on the list.

TAC Sports is not liable for any children until they are signed into our care by the parent or guardian or other authorized person listed on the authorization list.

 

Lost and Found Items

Each location has its own Lost and Found Bin. All items found by the coordinator and coaches will be placed in this bin. At the end of the camp and items not claimed will be donated to a charitable organization. It is highly recommended that the child’s full name is placed on all personal items.

TAC Sports is not held accountable for any lost items, including but not limited to clothing articles, electronics, water bottles etc.

 

First Aid Materials

Fully Stocked First Aid Kits and ice packs are available at all times at all camp locations.

Rose Reisman is excited to expand her Children’s lunch program to Toronto Athletic Camp (TAC), and to break the stereotype of what is considered ‘camp food’! Real food, done right.

Rose Reisman is a leading authority on the art of eating & living well. She’s a caterer, motivational speaker, columnist and TV personality, with over 18 cookbooks published. Dedicated to improving the eating habits of Canadian families, she is the owner of Rose Reisman Catering, Personal Gourmet, and a Children’s School and Camp Lunch Program. Rose is also a restaurant consultant with her own menu at the Pickle Barrel chain.

Rob Velenik, the president of Rose Reisman Catering, is a knowledgeable food service professional who was the Director of Catering for Pusateri’s Fine Foods for over 20 years, and has brought his unparalleled expertise to RRC team since joining in early 2015.

Healthy eating has long been Rose’s passion, having educated Canadians on nutrition and how to create delicious, well-balanced meals for over 20 years. Rose’s interest in spreading this important message stemmed from wanting to improve her own health so she could be the role model for her family. A believer in the importance of starting healthy eating habits at a young age, as well as the connection between proper nutrition and learning, Rose launched the RRC Children’s Lunch Program in 2015, serving healthy, tasty and non-processed daily lunches to schools and camps in the GTA.

SAMPLE MENU

Lunch Program

All our camps are nut free, our caterers are nut free as well. We can cater to specific allergies and dietary restrictions. All allergies and dietary restrictions for medical, religious, or cultural reasons MUST be noted in the registration form during the registration process in the appropriate sections allocated for such information – an alternate meal with these allergies and dietary restrictions in mind will be provided.

All full day, full week registrations will be included in the lunch program*. This provides the camper with a morning snack, lunch, and an afternoon snack. To be eligible for the lunch program, a full-day camper must be registered for 4 days or more of the same week. Registrations of three days or less per week will not be provided with the lunch program.

Registrations done within a week or less of the start date of camp are not guaranteed lunch, dietary restrictions, allergy specific meals, and snacks. Lunch must be packed form home until confirmed with an office that lunch will be provided for late registration campers.

It is highly recommended that extra snacks are packed from home.

Adventure Camp – Multi Sports

TAC Adventure Camp is a FULL DAY program (with a HALF DAY option) for ages 4-5.

Every week offers a different theme (i.e. Safari, Atlantis, Superheros and Villains, etc.),  where exciting activities are planned in correspondence to that theme. The weekly activities include activities such as arts and crafts, story time, camp songs, low organizational games (where campers learn fundamental movement skills), and scavenger hunts that are stimulating for young minds, fostering creativity and imagination, and more importantly develops both literacy and physical literacy.

Furthermore, each day features a specific sport that is modified to be developmentally appropriate for this age group, allowing campers to explore soccer, tennis, basketball & dance and decide for themselves what sports they are most passionate about. For more detailed information about this program, please refer to our weekly curriculum plan in the itinerary. All children registered in Adventure Camp must be potty trained.

Soccer, Fitness and Camp Activities (Outdoor)

Players train with professional soccer coaches in ball mastery, specific step-by-step skill training, and dynamic games and drills within smaller groups. Students gain confidence through our 5-Star Development System, gaining motivation as they progress through the steps and levels. Fitness and leadership development is incorporated into all the different activities. As our levels are tailored to beginner and advanced, our camp is perfect for any skill level. Co-Ed. 

COVID-19 Precautions: No 1v1 competition, no gameplay that may result in close contact and a distance of 6 feet will be maintained at all times. TAC Sports is dedicated to following all Ontario Soccer Protocols in return to play and the guidelines set by the government of Ontario and Canada.

    • Passing, shooting, dribbling and all other fun individual ball skill work are approved. No gameplay and close contact drills.  
  • What cleaning procedures will be in effect?
    • Cleaning of the balls and all equipment will be done after each change of activity during the day. 
    • Campers will be encouraged to regularly wash their hands. In the event there is not a nearby washroom, hand sanitizing stations are set up.

Dance (Outdoor)

TAC Sports Dance summer camp combines the fundamental skills and progressions of the two popular dances of hip-hop and jazz.

The skills of dance are covered through our 5-Star Development System. Elements of fitness, stretching, and leadership are included in the programming. Students have full creative freedom yet are guided appropriately to help them progress and spice up their videos and dancing. Fun choreographed dances are done with a performance at the end of the week to modern popular songs.

All dance runs outdoor on fields, grass and outdoor spaces.

COVID-19 Precautions: Dance will take place outdoors with charged Bluetooth speakers – choreographies will be modified to allow dancers to keep the distance.

Coding 

Our summer Coding technology program covers the basics of programming through Scratch – a unique program designed to introduce students to coding. Students learn how to do multiple different game designs and animations through a series of programming, doing simple game design and animations. 

COVID-19 Precautions: All indoor programming will take place in a large, ventilated indoor space with access to many outdoor air and good air ventilation quality. Students will be spaced apart. Students will remain in their own cohort.

Learn To Bike

Our TAC Biking Program is designed for all skill levels, ranging from the fundamentals to more advanced cycling knowledge. This program will focus on developing confidence and technical skills, with an emphasis on promoting road safety. Programming consists of fun and stimulating games in a safe and supervised environment.

Students will develop fundamental skills such as safety, balance, pedaling, braking, steering, and general biking knowledge. The programming serves to build upon the basic principles of cycling in order to cultivate a passion for the sport either in a recreational or competitive manner.

We apply the 5-Star Development system to all of our programs. This system gives students 5 measurable levels to achieve with specific criteria outlined. It is specifically designed to increase motivation, knowledge retention, goal setting skills, and development. This system is unique and distinguishes TAC Sports from other camps.
